The Horses that call Great Spirit Animal Sanctuary their #home4life

Fred

Fred just had an experimental procedure done on him by our veterinarian. He had over 20 sarcoid on his head and legs when we rescued him from being emaciated. Were hopeful this procedure will allow his body to begin to reject them.

Fred the worst case of abuse that we have seen. He was fully emaciated and other horses were actually biting him. He could barely stand. His body was covered with Sarcoid.

Ethel

Ethel has sever PTSD and must be completely sedated for any dental, hoof or other procedures. This is extremely dangerous for a horse. Our veterinarians are well trained for these types of procedures.

Ethel will always watch any human. She has little trust for most. She was rescued numerous times by rescues from kill pens only to end up in one again for a third time. Each time she was with foal and her foal was adopted out. She will avoid humans at all costs.

Romeo

Hés the head guy of the group. Hés a very loving horse. Romeo was found in the desert after being dumped by his owners. It was discovered through x-rays he had a broken back at some point earlier.

Juliette

2nd in Charge of the herd.

Juliette when she was rescued.

Amigo

Buckshot

Our veterinarian performing surgery on buckshot to remove a tumor that is consistently coming back. She was able to remove all of it and were hopeful it won’t come back.

Zorro, we rescued him from another rescue that was closing, and they needed a permanent placement for him.

The Donkeys, Burros and Mules of Great Spirit Animal Sanctuary

The Three Amigos have arrived! They were actually rescued from a kill pen transporter just hours before their certain death. They were being sold for slaughter for another country. From Left to Right Styx (friendliest) Brix (the shyest yet most vocal) and Hayz (the protector of the brothers). Styx, Brix and Hayz (do you get the three little piggie reference?)
